Ellert frá Baldurshaga

IS 200131800518

BLUP 103

Colour Code W21

Father: Sær frá Bakkakoti, Mother: Kengála frá Búlandi

Breeding Assesment: 8,27    Confirmation: 8,56    Rideability:8,12

Breeding Profile

Ellert frá Baldurshaga is one of the most famous Icelandic stallions today because he carries a genetic coat-colour pattern never seen before in the world — called ýruskjóttur. This unique pattern combines a bay-dun base with extensive white splashes on the belly, legs, and sides, along with a broad blaze and sometimes partially blue eyes, making him visually striking and completely unlike any other Icelandic horse known before.

Ellert’s colour comes from a previously unknown genetic variant (allele W21), confirmed through DNA testing, and for that reason he represents a significant contribution to the breed’s genetic diversity.

He has also been recognized as a very good breeding stallion, with strong evaluations for conformation and riding ability, and his offspring are now being born with similar patterns, expanding this rare trait.

In short, Ellert is famous because he is the only horse in the world with this exact colour pattern, and he brings new genetic variation into the Icelandic horse breed.
